 this week we learned about Africa  classic African house  there are a not of different types of houses round, ovoid, square, or rectangular and made of stones, brick, mud, wood, or straw. there is also the circle and square house the circle is the classic version and the square came about the the 20th century. there houses weren't built like the houses we normally think of when we think of a house they were very open and housed not just the family but extended family and animals.  furniture  Stools are the most common type of seating in Africa and are normally low to the ground. they were normaly carved out of 1 pice of wood event though they were simple they were very durable.  Dogon stools use carved people to represent ancestors and connect the earth and sky.

the arts and crafts movement went from 1868-1930. the arts and crafts was inspired by the medievial times they specifically looked at  German tribes, Icelandic sagas, Celtic tales, and the story of King Arthur.  the arts and crafts used a lot of wood materials that had exposed joints to go with them.  William Morris was a key person when it came to the arts and crafts    examples of arts and crafts   modern day   one step farther:Charles Francis Annesley Voysey  he was born in  1857 he was a British designer  he was a successful architect and wallpaper designer  started his own practice in 1888 and became popular around 1895.. his designed homes that were simple and well built.
